Association celebrating second Doctors’ Day in Penang on Oct 10

DOCTORS will celebrate Doctors’ Day in Penang on Oct 10 this year.

The event is organised by the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners’ Associations Malaysia (FPMPAM) and the Penang Medical Practitioners Society (PMPS).

Organising chairman for Doctors’ Day 2015 Dr Satish Shulka said following the success of the first Doctors’ Day in Ipoh last year, the Penang Medical Practitioners’ Society was given the task to work with the FPMPAM to host this year’s event in Penang.

FPMPAM president Dr Steven Chow said Doctors’ Day was being held again this year as they believe in the importance of highlighting the role of doctors not only in the care of the sick but also as a force in reshaping society.

“We chose Oct 10 as Doctors’ Day to represent the precision of judgement and care or 10-10, required of all doctors in their care of their patients.

“We urge more Malaysians to join their doctors in this celebration as Doctors’ Day is meant to recognise the importance of a good doctor-patient relationship as well,” said Dr Chow.

“Doctors’ Day this year is especially important amid the background of the increasing cost of healthcare.

“We feel it is important to take a step back and be on the same platform with our patients to look at how to maintain good health and to minimise the occurrence of costly catastrophic diseases” added Dr Chow.

The Doctors’ Day weekend this year will be held from Oct 9 to 11 with numerous activities, including the gala dinner which will be held at the Bayview Beach Hotel, Batu Ferringhi Penang on Oct 10.
